Location

Khantakht is situated 15.8 km south-east of Salmast City, at an altitude of 1,310 to 1,330 metres.

Name Origin

The village is called after a fortress situated nearby, the name Khantakht meaning Khan’s (King’s) Throne (Residence).

Historical Introduction

Perhaps, the village has an ancient history, as there are almost 3 thousand-year-old fortresses located in its neighbourhood. That it was once inhabited by Armenians is proved by its Armenian cemetery, which probably had only slab-stone295.s.
