Location

Located in the area between the Great Caucasus and the river Alazan, it borders on Telav, Ghvarel and Sghnakh Districts, Republic of Georgia, as well as the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Autonomous Republic of Daghestan, Russian Federation.

Historical Introduction

Before the establishment of the Soviet rule, it was only the district’s present-day administrative centre Lagodekh that had Armenian inhabitants. Nowadays it has 63 settlements.
