Location

It is located in the area between the watershed of the Great Caucasus and the river Alazan, in the northwest of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Its bordering neighbours are Zakatala District, Republic of Azerbaijan, Lagodekh and Sghnakh Districts, Republic of Georgia and the Autonomous Republic of Daghestan, Russian Federation.

Historical Introduction

According to some sources, the Armenians lived in the district centre of Belokan and several Lezghin-inhabited villages nearby.
