Sts. Poghos and Petros Church

Location

The church of Sts. Poghos and Petros, which is enclosed within walls (44 x 28 metres) and surrounded with gardens, is located within 300 metres (N 38º09°26.05°°; E 044º45°04.36°°) of the last houses of Haftvan, 1.5 km south of St. Gevorg Church.

Historical Introduction

Judging from the available records, it did not receive any income from pilgrims’ visits (it did not have a special pilgrimage day). Sharing the fate of St. Tadevos Monastery, this small church was destroyed by the earthquake of 6 May 1930.

Architectural Description

The church of Sts. Poghos and Petros is a rectangular building of unburnt brick (dimensions: 6.67 x 5.57 metres), with a wooden roof and a small open vestibule. For the first time, it was measured and photographed by the Italian expedition in 1976.

Rebuilt

In the late 1990s, the church underwent simple reconstruction.
