St. Gevorg (George) Church Church

Location

The remnants of this church can be seen in an abandoned quarter of Tjara (N 38 04 44.28; E 044 35 28.98), opposite the aforementioned fortress.

Historical Introduction

In the late 19th century, it was described as a structure of unburnt brick and a wooden roof dedicated to St. Gevorg.

Architectural Description

According to a document the source of which remains unknown, the church (exterior dimensions: 14.38 x 7.10 metres) dates from 1203.

The original of this document is in the private archives of R. Ter-Poghossian, who lives in Salmast City.
