Location

Situated in the north of Kakhet, it borders on Dushet, Telav, Tianet and Sagarejo Districts, Republic of Georgia and the Russian Federation.

Population

Apart from the native Georgians, the district’s 15 settlements also used to have Armenian inhabitants, who built several churches in some villages where they were comparatively greater in number. In the ‘10s of the 20th century, the Armenians also founded a national school in Matan Village.
