Location

It occupies an area of 259,2 square kilometres and borders on Sghnakh District, Republic of Georgia, as well as the districts of Zakatala, Kakh, Khanlar, Touz and Ghazakh, Republic of Azerbaijan.

Historical Introduction

The largest administrative unit in Kakhet, it has 17 settlements, of which 4 used to have an Armenian population. At present it is only Sabatlu throughout the district that is a purely Armenian-inhabited village with an Armenian-speaking population.
