Location

The village is situated 22 kilometres west of the district centre, at an altitude of 1,320 to 1,460 metres above sea level.

Name Origin

The historical name of Novo-Ivanovka has fallen into oblivion. Before the arrival of the Russian resettlers, some cattle-breeders called it Aghkilisa, i.e. the Turkish equivalent for ‘White Church’ deriving from a large church standing there.

Historical Introduction
1770 y․

Stripped of its Armenian inhabitants in the 1770s, the village remained absolutely derelict for about seven decades. It was only in 1853 that some Russian sectarians from Tambov and Saratov Provinces of the Russian Empire and Jiban Village of Shamakhi District settled down there.
