It is located on the right bank of the river Alazan, 12 km east of the district centre.

Historical Introduction

Alaverdi, one of the oldest and remarkable villages in Kakhet, retains one of the most valuable monuments of Georgian architecture, i.e. a splendid church dating back to the 11th century, which is the highest in Georgia.
