On 1 September 1899, a Russian public school opened in Chardakhlu. It functioned on a two-year basis and comprised 5 classes.

The teaching staff of the institution, which had 101 pupils, including a girl, in 1901.

The teaching staff of the school consisted of Hovhannes Sargissian Aghayants, Mikhail Feodorovich Lapik and Gevorg Ter-Stepanossian Manassiants.

In fact, this institution represented a Russian school before the establishment of the Soviet rule, for the Armenian language was not taught there: “Most of the young men of the village were stripped of the chance of getting education, since the local five-year school could admit only 120 pupils who were to pay a tuition fee for attending it. The instruction was conducted in Russian, with the exception of the lessons of Religion.”

1934 y․

Before his death in 1934, Chardakhlu inhabitant Jahan Margarian donated his library of 2,000 books to this school.
